Energy

The Climate Action Implementation Plan requires UIC to be carbon neutral by 2050, and reducing campus energy use is an important step in reaching that goal. In fact, the CAIP estimates that successful execution of this strategy over the next 15 years will account for about 10.5% of the total emission reductions our university needs to go completely carbon neutral. The transition to renewable energy is also a key strategy for becoming carbon neutral.

Our collective actions as employees, students, and citizens make a difference, and it's important that UIC tackles energy consumption holistically. Active funds in this category will improve occupant comfort and building performance, reduce energy use by educating building occupants, sponsoring LEED construction and building retrofits, or funding cutting-edge research.

Inspired by Strategy 1.1.2 of UIC’s Climate Action Implementation Plan, the Green Revolving Fund supports on-campus energy and water efficiency measures. As these projects result in energy and water savings over time, they also generate cost savings; these cost savings are in turn reinvested back into more efficiency projects. Thus, donations to this fund will help sponsor efficiency projects at UIC in perpetuity!
